Iraqi Bundles of Love

As soon as I saw this project I knew I had to participate. Even though money is tight for us right now, we have so much compared to people in other countries. I am especially fond of this project after reading Three Cups of Tea, you realize how little our government is doing to rebuild and help the people in Iraq and Afghanistan.

An American Solider started this project and here is the web site to get involved. If you do not have a fabric or yarn stash and still want to get involved, you can click on the link to sew mama sew below and they have pre made bundles for sale.

This is about the project from his web site:

Iraqi Bundles of Love is a short-duration project, set to last about six weeks, originally intended to surge fabric and sewing (and knitting!) materials into the area around which I live in Iraq. It is timed to coincide with both Ramadan, and the departure of my units from Iraq. If you’re reading this, well — it’s kind of grown. It’s going to help a little bit more of northern Iraq than just the area around where I live.

It is intended to be a simple project, requiring little effort and little expenditures from those wishing to participate. It is based upon my assessment that sewing fanatics and quilters and knitters tend to have stashes that far exceed their actual needs, and that sewing fanatics and quilters and knitters are passionate both about sewing / quilting / knitting, and about sharing with others.

I originally though success for this project was going to be measured in tens. Somewhere along the way, after folks like Sew Momma Sew got involved (see this and this), I began to think about hundreds. Now, thanks to folks like you, I am planning for thousands.

So here is a picture of what I am sending :
In reality I could put together at least two more, but like I said funds are tight so the postage is and issue.

Happy to at least do one:) and less for me to pack and move across the US.

Here it is all bundled up as requested, ready to go to the post office tomorrow.

If you want to participate, the mailing deadline is Sept. 7th.

It may help to click on them though!

My sister sent her this cute dress! It is a newborn size and she has worn it a bunch but it will not fit her much longer as she is getting big so fast! She is almost 10lbs all ready! SHESHH

Finally a finished project or Two

Crafting has been slow going around here, to much snuggling with Scarlette:)
However I did finish these two quick projects.

How cute is Graham in his new shirt.

This project cost me a whole $2.50-which was for the shirt.
I got it at Once upon a Child.
The fabric I won in a giveaway and still have the rest of the Charm pack left.

I love the Graphic look of the letters. Exciting to have something cute to make for a boy. There are so many darling things to make for girls... not so much for boys.

You can find the tutorial here.

He is getting so big:(

Gabby is modeling her new scarf.
You can find the tutorial here.
It can be made from a T-shirt, we just didn't have one to cut up around.

Striking a pose!

We were in Aeropostale and they had these fabric scarfs and Gab wanted one. They were 17$ and were just stretchy fabric twisted together. So I told her we would make a scarf.

I got the fabric at Walmart for $1.50 a yard and still have a TON left over.
She loves it and said" It looks store bought." I think that is pretty good.

I am still trying to finish up two quilts before we move so I don't have to pack them unfinished. One Just needs to be backed and quilted the other top is almost done and then backed & quilted.

Weight Loss Wed.

Welcome to Weight Loss Wensday.

Week one went pretty well for me, I managed to squeeze in 30 minutes of yoga Thursday,Friday& Saturday and a 30 minute walk yesterday pushing the double stroller up and down our hilly neighborhood. Sunday-just didn't happen. I think this should count for something, Monday I went to wall mart and pushed my 35lb toddler in a cart while packing my almost 10 lb newborn in the front pack and pushing a full cart of groceries around the store. I was sweating by the time Gwen and I got the car loaded.

Any hoo... On the food front I tried really hard to eat lots of fruits and veggies and less SWEETS!
I will never be able to give up dessert completely, especially chocolate.

Overall it was a successful week!
I lost 2.5lbs, yes I know the breast feeding is helping, I'll take what I can get.
Only 29lbs left to go. uggg

Didn't get a chance to take a photo of my fat self, maybe this week.

Here is a (free) site I started to use to help keep track of calories. I have been so so about adding my whole day of food, but it is great to look up items calories. They also send you newsletters if you so desire.

One of my blog friends April is making a button for us to use for WLW. I will post it as soon as she is done with it.

I excited because there are a few people joining me this week and more that will be joining later in the next month or so. If you want to join us, email me and I will add you to the weekly email list.

Here are this weeks participants, stop by and leave them an encouraging comment.

Summer Swanson of: Artful Life
Tasha Riley of : Life of the Riley's
April Oritz of:The Art Chics
Sarah Chimblo of: Sew Sarah
From Sarah: "I am participating this week, but will not post about it b/c I have too many work commitments. My goals this week are to eat 2 breakfast/lunch/snacks as veggies/fruits and dinner as usual with my family. I have found that when i make time to exercise, I lose 1-2 pounds/week when I eat this way. The fruits/veggies make my tummy feel/look flatter. Also, I'm working on drinking less soda and if I drink one, only 1 diet. (I totally know the risks of drinking diet pop, so sometimes, I drink a regular soda and then eat no snacks.

I hope this goes well for everyone. My friend Beth and I started a website through ning called "Nomommymuffintop" We started off really strong, but now there's only about 3 of us still trying to make progress. You're welcome to check it out if you want!"

Spread the word about WLW! Twitter, facebook and blog about it so we can get more participants.

I would love to do a giveaway related to exercise or weight loss, hmm will have to put some thought into it.

First Day of School

Today is the girls first day of school.

Gabby started 7th grade. CRAZY
I pretty much met the majority of my friends in 7th grade and the really cool thing is we are all still friends!

Gab being a goof ball.

Gwenny Gwen Gwen.
She looks so vintage and cute, I love it!
Her jeans use to be full length, however she grew and they were to short. They still fit her waist, so I cut them off and she likes to roll them up. Perfect for this time of year as the weather starts to change.

I cut both the girls hair over the weekend. Gab just wanted a trim, and Gwen wanted hers short. We cut off about 6 inches, I think it looks super cute especially with her curls!

The girls leave at different times, so I don't get to torture them by taking pictures of them together!

Be back tomorrow with Weight Loss Wed.

A New Weekly Topic

WEIGHT LOSS WEDNESDAY

I decided a couple of months ago that I was going to do these weekly posts to keep my self accountable and motivated.

It has officially been two weeks since I had miss Scarlette and now I am trying to get back into shape. Yes, the Dr.'s say wait 6 weeks, but that is not how I do things! After Graham was born I was back doing tap and Ballet after two weeks.

I ended up only gaining 40lbs which was better than last time when I gained 50. However I still had 7 of those pounds left when I got pregnant this time.
So my Goal is to lose 47 lbs, egads that sounds like a lot!
Since leaving the hospital I have lost 15.5LBS
Total left to LOSE: 31.5 LBS - That is like losing Graham in weight, sheesh

Today, I did a half hour of Yoga, it felt really good. Wasn't the most relaxing though because Graham was driving cars over and around me. HA HA

If anyone wants to join me on this journey leave me a comment and if there is enough interest I will make a button and we can add some recipes and tips. Oh, and we can do a weekly link on my blog for everyone who does a post about their progress!

To help motivate myself, I am going to post a picture of my self between the first two babies and the second set of babies.

Me, Melissa and Jenny at Melissa's wedding in San Francisco.
I have been friends with these girls since 7th grade:)
Me, in my size 2 red dress!
Yes, I am proud of that fact and hoping to wear that dress again sooner rather than later!
Click on the pic to make it bigger, my face looks funny in the small version. Try not to notice the red eyes, it is 11:30p and I need to get to bed!

Donna, Heidi, Me and Annie in Napa drinking so wine:)
Still have the jeans (top too), can't wait to wear them again they are Citizens for Humanity and were my favorite pair!

Can't wait to get back to CA and my girl friends!
I do not have a pic of my fat self at the moment, maybe next week I will post one!

First Bath

We gave Scarlette her first bath 2 nights ago. She will be two weeks old tomorrow and the umbilical cord is still hanging on...sheesh.

She loved her bath, no crying at all.

Wide awake and happy.

Gabby took these two.

Little Sweet Pea!

Not many craft projects getting complete, too busy with the baby and kidos. I did sew for a bit over the weekend, I hope to get back to the messed up quilt soon Girls start school next week, which will be nice and a bit scary at the same time. Scary because they help out a lot with Graham. Nice because there will be less people at home making a mess:) We have also started cleaning out the basement getting everything organized to either pack or sell. Not happy about packing again~

Remember This.....

Remember this nicely laid out quilt top.

I had laid this out before I went to the hospital to have the baby.
This is what I came home to!

Thanks to my children leaving the dinning room door open and the cats running through my quilt top!
So glad I had not laid the whole thing out yet.

Everyday I have thought about going in to work on it and have yet to have a chance to do it!
Maybe tomorrow will be the day!
Off to bed.

Book Critique

Sorry for another picture less post, I hate not having photos in my posts.

Just a quick report on the books I have finished.

Miss Julia Delivers the Goods by Ann B Ross: Another cute book in the miss Julia series. Nice quick easy read. I have enjoyed this wholesome series very much. Kind of fun because it takes place here in NC:)

Finished The Final Detail by Harlen Coben: A good suspense/mystery. Very quick read, funny sarcastic main character. This I believe is also part of a series which bugs me because I read it out of order. Not that I plan to go back and start from the beginning, however it still bugs me. I like to red books in order.

Now I am on to the Time Travelers Wife, I am enjoying it so far. I am a little slow on this one because I am not getting as much sleep because of a sweet little girl names Scarlette:)

I hope to be able to post some interesting crafty stuff again soon. I spent today nursing... doing laundry... nursing...doing dishes... fighting with a stubborn 2 year old.... nursing...reading stories with Graham... nursing..... and making dinner ! Not complaining, just stating the fact that I thought about sewing and just didn't get around to it. Maybe tomorrow:) Today was our first full day without Daddy, so it was a bit rough with the little dude. He has been doing pretty well, but has hit the "terrible twos" and is not wanting to follow directions at all!

Miss Scarlette is calling!

Funny night...

Two nights ago we watched two movies and stayed up until midnight. Which would have been fine except for the following events.

Scarlette likes to be awake around midnight, even when she was in the womb she would go crazy for a half hour or so every night around 11:30-midnight.

After her active period, I fed her and changed her diaper, swaddled her all up and went to wash my face. I hear a loud poop, so I stop washing my face and go change her again. Clean face and ready for bed, another loud poop, Chad and I were laughing at that point. In the process of changing her for the third time, she peed all over her Pj's and swaddle blanket. I had to go hunt down some Newborn Pj's in the dark in Grahams room and a fresh blanket. Finally got her changed and wrapped back up now 1:30 am.

That was the first night in I don't know how long that I have not read before going to sleep.

She then woke up at 3ish and then 5ish. During her 5ish feeding Graham started to cry, so Chad got up to see what was wrong. He had leg cramps, which he gets often... my poor boy. I use to get them when I was little too. Normally this is my department, but I had a baby attached to me so Chad had to deal with it. He brought him into our room and gave him something to drink. Poor Graham is still crying because daddy is not mommy!
I finished feeding Scarlette, get Graham some Tylenol and get in bed and rub his legs.
At this point it is after 5:30 and Graham is having a hard time going back to sleep and is bugging Chad.
Chad has never had an easy time going back to sleep, especially in the am when he is use to getting up early any way. He hopped out of bed and I started to laugh and said" Happy Birthday Honey" He laughed too.

Nice way to start his birthday!
However, at 7 Chad put Graham back in his bed and got back in bed with Scarlette and I and we got to sleep until 9.
Woo Hoo.

The funny part about it is I didn't even mind because I know how fleeting these days are and how soon these little ones will be big.

I won.......

Posts are going to be pretty short and sweet for a bit as I am enjoying little miss Scarlette:)

Last week I won a give away on Ucreate, just for being a follower. This is what I won:

Picture from Ucreate web site, too lazy to take my own photos.

A charm pack of darling fabric. Not my usual style, but I really love it.
Especially after I saw this tutorial.

This photo is from the above tutorial and is one item I am going to make with this fabric.
Need to find a plain white shirt for Graham.
I will still have a ton left over, who knows what it will become!

Happy Saturday!
