My Name is Jennifer... and I Am A DIET COKE AHOLIC!

I don't drink coffee, or tea, have never smoked, drink socially and yet I am addicted to diet coke. Doesn't sound too bad I know, but come to find out it is. WAAAAA

Yes, people have told me diet coke is not good for you but I though oh well. So it is not actually my beloved diet cokes fault it is the nasty Aspartame that is used as a sugar substitute that is the evil in my diet coke.

Let me rewind to last evening......................... I was watching stupid wipe out with Chad and Gabby and decided to check in with Face Book to see what peeps were up to. My friend Maile commented that she needed a diet coke intervention before her hair started to fall out again. I quickly emailed her for the details, because my hair has seemed so thin and is all over the house all the time and I normally have a lot of hair. Come to find out this is a side effect of aspartame. OMG

I googled it and there are a ton of other side effects: dizziness, heart palpitations, irritability, muscle aches, weight gain, increased thirst, headaches and a bunch more that I can not remember. Basically it is bad bad stuff, Canada has outlawed it.

Here I though I was being good by drinking diet and caffeine free, but no. Diet coke is kind of smart they get people addicted to their product and it increases thirst so you want to drink more.

I have three diet cokes left in the fridge and that will be the end of me purchasing diet soda for daily use. I am not saying I will never drink diet coke again, just saying that I will stop drinking it every day 3-4 cans a day. YIKES!!!! Anyone have any non aspartame bubbly drinks that are yummy and low cal/sugar?? I like bubbles, they are so nice for my tummy:)

Once again the old saying is true" everything in moderation"

There is a product out there called Pepsi One, it is a one calorie drink, but made with Splenda. Try it! No aspartame in it.

I have the same problem, only my problem being with coffee. Ya know, it just seems to me that there are some things, like drinking diet coke and coffee should be unlimited. Like you, I never smoked, did drugs, and have never drank enough to even say I do (about a half glass of wine is plenty for me), so why can't I drink all the coffee I want?:)
I feel for ya.

Hey Jen!!
There is this pop (soda) that you can get off the internet that is all natural. I have been meaning to try it for a long time now, so if you get to it first, let me know if you like them! :) The website is www.hansens.com.

I like to make my own italian sodas for a fizzy treat. Sparkling Water & a flavored syrup (It. Soda) + a splash of cream for a Creamosa.

I also found out how bad my lo-cal drink was for me!! It contained Splenda and was causing havoc in my body (extreme headaches, bloating, weight gain, etc.). After researching Splenda, I came to find out how it was not "Sugar" with the calories removed, but it was actually discovered while trying to create a pesticide in a lab. Eww!!

Jen, I wanted to tell you what I do drink a lot of in place of soda. If you like to taste of sweet, I am not sure you will like this, but I love it. Buy some frozen raspberries, let them thaw and then mash them up a little (they can be mashed with a spoon, once thawed). Put ice in a glass, however much of the raspberries along with some of the juice and pour club soda over it. It is delicious! You can even add a little sugar to the raspberries before thawing. I do not add the sugar cause my husband is diabetic. This will give you the bubbly drink, which I have to have if I am drinking anything other than coffee. If you do try it, let me know what you think.

Jen, My friend Ginny found out her MS was triggered by diet coke. Better switch to Pepsi One(made with Splenda). Good luck. Love and Prayers, Suzanne
