New to Rosey Little Things

I have been thinking about doing this for a long time and finally just got around to doing it. Mainly because the  Vintage sheet blog is having a one year celebration, so I thought it would be a good time to introduce it.  I have added a fun new item to the Shoppe.  It is the Vintage Sheet Fat Quarter Club of the month.

Each month for four months, you will receive a 6 pack of coordinating vintage sheet FQ's. By the end of the four months you will have 24 different FQ's.   Around the 15th of each month, you will receive your package of FQ's. This is a great way to build a stash. Price includes Shipping. $32.00

Join the club so you don't miss out on all the fun.

First Quilt Finish of 2011

One of my goals was to finish more quilts than last year, well today I finished my first quilt of the year. And that makes me even with last year.  Which means I only need to complete one more to reach my goal... sort of.  I would really like to finish more than that!

I decided to make my brand new niece a quilt for Christmas. Yes, I know it is after Christmas, but this is the first time I have seen her since she was born Dec. 7th. My sis and the kids came over today and since I waited until the last minute to finish this quilt, I finished stitching the binding on about one minute before she walked through the door!

I actually took this photo as my photo of the day. I have seen a few bloggers who have done this and I though That sounds fun, I am going to try to do that~
I made this quilt in a couple of days, which is record speed for me.
I was in love with this quilt & this quilt, which were my inspiration.

Hard to see in this photo, but I hand embroidered her name on the quilt before I quilted it.

A little vintage doily added on the back.  I used vintage sheets for the front- except the orangeish one is from the shabby chic collection at target that I found at the thrift.  I backed it with pink flannel.  For the quilting I did random lines vertically and horizontally, which was a new technique for me.  I also free motioned hearts randomly throughout the quilt.

This is the first quilt that I have made for someone outside of my household.
Here she is taking it for a spin:)  And yes, that is her hair ... not a hat!

Blogger's Quilt Festival-Scarlette's Zig Zag Quilt

I have missed out on the last two quilt Festivals and have been waiting patiently to participate in this one. This is a fun blog wide event put on by Amy for all of us quilters to show our favorite finished quilt.

First off .. Why am I naming it after Scarlette?   Because I started it when I was nine months pregnant with her, I finished the top right after she was born, while she slept on my sewing room floor.  And one year-ish later I finally put it all together.  Still hand stitching the binding down but didn't want to miss out on the festival.

Here is a link to the original post when I finished the top.

The entire quilt is vintage sheets.
This quilt is for me for now....... Scarlette Grace will get it someday.

You still have a couple of days to join the fun so pop over and link up to the festival.

Sew and Tell Friday!

Here is what I have been working on....

A pin wheel block for my Vintage Sheet Quilting bee.
I love how it turned out and kind of want to make a pin wheel quilt now!

I had a order to complete for my blog designer and here are the finished products.

This darling half apron is made from all vintage linens. I need to make myself one now... love it.

Two Sets of Laundry and shoe travel bags.

The Large bag is the laundry bag and the three smaller ones are for shoes.  I love these and haven't made these in a few years.  They are excellent for traveling....  good way to keep shoes away from clean clothes!

Burp cloths

More burp cloths.

Have a ton more sewing I am working on... will be back soon.

My Pseudo Sewing Room

For the first time in about 7.5 years I do not have my very own sewing room....SNIFF  We are living in a pretty small house for the amount of people and stuff we have, so I have had to get creative.  A lot of my sewing stuff is in totes and organized on shelves in the garage.  Which is hard for me because I like to see what I have, or I forget about it.  So I decided I needed a place for my fabric to be inside where I can see it.

I turned half of my entry closet into sewing headquarters.  I found the shelf at a garage sale a couple of weekends ago.  I wasn't even on my way to yard sales, I was running errands and saw a sale, so I pulled over.  I spotted the shelf right away, it is super chippy.  I asked the lady how much and she said 10$, so I stared at it for about 10 minutes then left, drove around the block and decided I wanted it.  It was worth it for the amount of storage it gives me.

The brown doors on the right of the photo are my front doors, ignore the ugly rug it is temporary.
The right half of the closet is packet full of coats.

The top shelf of the closet (which you can not see) is currently holding photos and albums,I hope to find some where else for them to go, so I can put more sewing stuff up there.

I also hung a hook on the left side (low) for my purse to hang on.

Multifunction and making do with what I have is the name of the game.

Vintage Sheet FQ's IDEA

THE BEE IS FULL NOW!!!
THANKS:)

I have a crazy idea floating around in my head...... how about a Vintage Sheet Quilting BEE

I decided it would be a good follow up to our vintage sheet FQ swap... it will make us use some of our sheet stash.

What is a quilting bee you ask? It is a group of 12 ladies who each host a month and choose block design. The hostess then sends the fabric to the other 11 ladies and each person makes a block or more and sends it back. This is repeated each month for a year until each person has had their turn. It gives you a chance to try out new quilt blocks with out having to make a whole quilt.

I am looking for 11 ladies, who love quilting and want to be part of a bee. US residents please... due to postage cost. All skill levels welcome.

If you are interested in joining you can leave a comment on this post or email me at roseylittlethings@gmail.com.

The bee will start as soon as we have enough participants.

Happy stitching!

Quilting Bee Anyone??

I have been dieing to join an online quilting bee...but whenever I see one, they are all ready in progress or full.  So I thought I would see if anyone wants to join me for a quilting bee.

Here is a link to a quilting bee: Bee Imaginative.  There are a ton more if you look around online.

Sew -n- Tell

Amy is hosting a weekly Sew-N-Tell, pop over to her blog and see all the other participants and join the fun.

This is the quilt top that got scattered all over my dinning room floor while I was at the hospital. I finally finished it.
Now it just needs to be backed, quilted and bound.
It is my zig zag quilt along quilt, if you want to quilt along click on the button in my side bar.

The girls laid it all out with a bit of assistance, it gave them the quilting bug. Gabby started to cut out squares to make a scrappy quilt.

The whole thing is made from vintage sheets. Need to get some batting so I can finish it:)

Have a great weekend!

Remember This.....

Remember this nicely laid out quilt top.

I had laid this out before I went to the hospital to have the baby.
This is what I came home to!

Thanks to my children leaving the dinning room door open and the cats running through my quilt top!
So glad I had not laid the whole thing out yet.

Everyday I have thought about going in to work on it and have yet to have a chance to do it!
Maybe tomorrow will be the day!
Off to bed.

Quilt ALong

I am doing two quilt alongs right now. I know CRAZY, but I had all the material so I thought I would try to keep up.

The first one is a week long and I am a bit behind, because I started a day or two late. Hoping to sew at some point today.

You can find the quilt along instructions here. The quilt is a baby sized quilt and is called in the in the leafy tree tops.

Here is a photo of Becky's finished quilt. I just love it!

Join Becky here to make this darling quilt!

Almost all of the pieces cut out for the top. Still need to cut the border strips, wanted to wait to see what looks best with the finished middle section.
The pattern is made with vintage sheets and I used some sheets from my stash. I have a nice collection after the swap:)

Here is the middle of the top all laid out waiting to be sewn together.
This was my first time doing nine patch blocks, they are not to hard. However accurate cutting and sewing are super important as is proper pressing. Take the time it is worth it.

This is for the other quilt along with the old red Barn group. It is going to be a throw sized Zig Zag quilt. I had decided to use vintage sheets on this one even before I started the other one. This one is going step by step each week, this week is pressing, cutting and laying out your quilt top. I still have a bunch of cutting to do. Monday will start the sewing process. Amy is leading this one, you can find the directions here.

It is not to late to join either one. I know there are a few of you out there who have been wanting to try a quilt, this is a great way to do it because you can work at your own pace, yet ask questions if you get stuck! Just do it!

We'll see how far I get on these before baby girl arrives:)
